Barranquilla, Colombia;<\/strong> During the emotional closing ceremony of the U16 World Youth Olympiad, Mr. Akaki Iashvili, Events Director of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), reaffirmed his commitment to the Americas as a host of high-level international competitions. His speech, full of recognition and strategic vision, highlighted Latin America’s role in the global development of chess.<\/p>\n\n\n

Mr. Iashvili congratulated Colombia for the impeccable organization of the event, highlighting the logistical excellence, the quality of the facilities, the commitment of the sponsors, and the warm welcome from the Barranquilla community. He extended a special mention to the President of the Colombian Chess Federation, Mr. Weymar Fernando Mu\u00f1oz, and his team for their leadership and dedication. He also recognized the professionalism of the main arbiter, IA Carolina Mu\u00f1oz, and the fair play arbiter, IA Sabrina San Vicente, who ensured the ethical and transparent conduct of the competition.

With the participation of 356 players from 46 countries and nearly 90 teams, this Olympiad left a deep impression on the FIDE representatives. Mr. Iashvili emphasized the positive impact that this type of initiative has on the sporting and cultural development of the continent and expressed his interest in continuing to promote events of this magnitude in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n
