The Argentine Republic has taken a firm step toward consolidating chess as an educational tool with the official launch of a national training program for chess educators.
This important progress in the strengthening of school chess in Argentina is made possible thanks to the agreements reached during the Congreso de Ajedrez Escolar de las Américas, held on December 18 and 19, 2024 in Buenos Aires. In this space, key commitments were generated between national educational authorities, ministerial representatives and international leaders of educational chess, which allowed for the coordination of actions with the Ministry of Human Capital led by Sandra Petrovello and the National Secretariat of Education, headed by Carlos Horacio Torrendell.

The Congress, organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas, brought together national and international authorities, including ministerial representatives from the Argentine Republic, who supported the project from their respective areas. Thanks to this collaborative effort, the following were achieved:
• The reactivation of the position of National Chess Coordinator, which will be assumed by Professor Juan Durán, within the Area of Educational Strengthening and Socio-Emotional Development.
• The appointment of 24 provincial representatives, one for each jurisdiction, to lead the implementation of the Chess in Schools program.
• The creation of the Association of Chess Teachers and Educators (APEA), chaired by Ricardo Luna, which will work on training new teachers and consolidating school programs throughout the country.

The executive director of the Argentine Chess Federation (FADA), Mario Petrucci, enthusiastically shared the news, highlighting the national impact of this educational policy. The initiative was supported by prominent international figures: Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Vice President of the International Chess Federation – FIDE), Jerry Nash (President of the FIDE Chess in Education Commission), Mauricio Arias (President of the CCA Education Commission), and Carlos Rivero (Zone President and President of the Cuban Federation), who actively participated in the meetings with Argentine authorities.
The president of the Confederation of Chess Associations (CCA), José Carrillo, celebrated the announcement with words that reflect the continental spirit of the project, reaffirming CCA's commitment to the development of educational chess in the Americas, promoting its integration into school systems as a pedagogical tool for inclusion and socio-emotional development, in line with FIDE's international standards.

This progress in Argentina is projected as a model for other nations on the continent, consolidating chess as a public educational policy with social impact.
