Congratulations to IM Faustino Oro on his first Grandmaster norm.

Jorge Egger24 de September de 202528 de October de 2025

The Argentine International Master Faustino Oro achieved a new milestone in his remarkable career last Tuesday, September 23, by obtaining his first Grandmaster norm at the “Legends and Masters” tournament, held from September 17 to 25 in Madrid, Spain.

Faustino drew with GM Omar Almeida (Cuba) in 17 moves, which was enough, with two rounds still to go, to reach 6 points out of 7 games, thus securing in advance the score required for his first Grandmaster norm. It is worth remembering that the Grandmaster title is awarded after achieving three such norms.

With this achievement, the Argentine International Master set a new milestone in his remarkable career by becoming the second youngest player in history to earn a Grandmaster norm, at 11 years and 340 days. The record in this regard is still held by India’s World Champion Gukesh D., who obtained his first norm at 11 years and 324 days.

FIDE America, through its board of directors, congratulates Faustino Oro on this great achievement and expresses its gratitude for the immense pride he brings to the entire continent as a representative of Argentine and American chess.
