The Confederation of Chess for the Americas (CCA), represented by its President José Carrillo Pujol, and the Asian Chess Federation (ACF), represented by its Secretary General Hisham Al-Taher, signed on August 18, 2025, a historic Memorandum of Understanding in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. The event was honored by the distinguished presence of the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Arkady Dvorkovich, who endorsed this agreement as part of global efforts to strengthen chess as a tool for inclusion, education, and cooperation between continents.

This agreement establishes a strategic framework of collaboration between both organizations, aiming to jointly promote the development of chess activities for the benefit of athletes, coaches, officials, educational institutions, and youth communities. Inspired by the desire to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between Asia and the Americas, the parties commit to fostering the exchange of knowledge, experiences, programs, and technologies in multiple areas of chess.
The fields of cooperation include the training and competition of athletes and teams, technical training of coaches, exchange of experts and technical staff, the development of school and youth chess, collaboration in sports science and research, and participation in festivals, camps, and youth gatherings. The agreement also contemplates the joint creation of educational materials, curriculum development, and the strengthening of sports infrastructure and training systems.

Activities derived from the Memorandum will be implemented through specific agreements between the parties, respecting the principles of reciprocity and the availability of resources. The initial duration of the agreement is three years, with the possibility of renewal for successive periods by mutual consent. In the event of termination, ongoing initiatives will continue until completion, as agreed upon by both organizations.
